Shopping for Your Afterlife Apparel

One of my writer friends, Donald Pennington, wrote an article entitled, Why Aren't Ghosts Naked? My first thought was, NOOOOOOO, don't make me go shopping for an afterlife wardrobe. I HATE shopping.

And then I thought, why DO ghosts appear to people wearing clothing, hats, and boots? I mean, I watch Ghost Adventures, Paranormal State, and other ghost hunting programs. People really do see ghosts wearing specific items.

But then I thought, how does Donald Pennington, who claims to NOT believe in ghosts, know that ghosts wear clothes? Maybe he's a ghostnostic (it's my blog and if I want to make up words, who's to stop me). According to the WizaWords dictionary, a ghostnostic is one who isn't really sure ghosts exist and is just waiting for people to prove their existence.

Sex With a Ghost – Spectrophilia

If you're one of those people who is looking for love in all the wrong places, perhaps you haven't checked out the spectral realm. Apparently a number of people are finding that ghosts make amazing sexual partners.

Why be alone when you can have a partner who 1) won't tell you what to do, and 2) won't complain about the way you clean house, wear your hair, or drive a car? Compared to humans, ghosts offer the relationship challenged another way to engage without actually having to commit.

I've heard of expanding my horizons when it concerns dating, but I thought that meant I should expand the age span of people I might consider dating. I never thought of looking at ghosts as potential partners.

To be fair, if I had a lost loved one due to death, I might want to keep him around, but even then, I don't think anybody would accuse me of having Spectrophilia. I prefer human contact.

Would Visual Hallucinations Explain Ghostly Apparitions

How can you explain hallucinations to somebody who has never before seen them? Are ghosts hallucinations?

Some people think they are, but if hallucinations distort your vision and your other senses, what explains the fact that no distortion takes place when people who purport to see ghosts make no mention of the fact that everything else around them remains the same?

Hallucinations involve the apparent perception of something that is not present, while apparitions mark the appearance of something remarkable or unexpected. Apparitions, in this context, are not hallucinations.

Everybody who knows me knows I believe in ghosts. Like the cowardly lion in the movie version of The Wizard of Oz, I can't help but remember the mantra – I do believe in ghosts – I do believe in ghosts – I do – I do.

Though I have never seen a ghost, I have heard one and I have felt his presence. I have also felt the presence of another spirit. My mind is open to the possibility that other people experience phenomena I have never come close to experiencing.

A woman I once knew, for example, claimed that fairies lived in her garden. This woman was not crazy and, in fact, was one of the most loving and most sane women I had ever met. Though I had never seen fairies myself, I believed her.

I don't think people who see ghosts are hallucinating. If I can hear them, but not see them, what's to say that somebody else can see them, but not hear them – or see them and hear them. The visitations occurred only twice to me. The experience was so frightening, I never wanted to be in the company of ghosts again, but I don't dismiss others who believe they have felt the presence of a ghost.

Shared Dreams

Dreams have always fascinated me. Though they sometimes distort "reality," they often feel as real as wakefulness.

Over the years I've wondered: when we sleep and when we dream, do others who are sleeping and dreaming, enter our dreams and experience the same dreams we are having, but from their own perspectives? Do others have access to our dreams through some dream portal?

When my oldest daughter, Keeley, was 2 years old, she walked into my bedroom and asked me why I was dreaming about bears. Never one to talk in my sleep,  I wondered how she could know I had been having a nightmare about bears.

Perhaps the strangest experience I've heard, as concerns dreams, happened to a friend of mine and her sister. Unbeknown to each other, they had shared the same dream. Repeatedly. Though they never discussed the dream with each other, on separate occasions, they related their ongoing and frightening nightmare to me.

Awakenings

She awoke one night and turned to look at the clock. The time read 1:05. The following night, she fell asleep and awoke once again. And again, the clock read 1:05.

Thinking it was just a coincidence, she fell back to sleep. But the following night the same thing happened again. And it happened again and it happened again.

What was the significance of that particular time? She was not born at 1:05 AM. Would 1:05 possibly indicate the time at which she would die at some point in the future?

Did 1:05 offer any numerological significance? Together the numbers added up to 6. According to spiritual numerology, the number 6 "is the most loving of all numbers."

Was the Universe trying to tell her she was loving, or was it trying to tell her to be more loving?

What else could she learn from the number 6?

Well, according to spiritual numerology, one who has the number 6 in her chart is "compassionate, responsible, sacrificing and unselfish, harmonious and balanced, generous, kind, humble, charismatic and charming...also committed, protective, nurturing, domestic, community conscious and family oriented."

Well, either the Universe was telling her she already had all of those qualities, or the Universe was telling her to adopt all of those qualities.

Or the Universe was telling her to change the batteries in her clock.

Turns out she needed to change the batteries in her clock.

White House Selling Ghosts – CHEAP

Wanna buy a ghost? Who wouldn't, right? Imagine having your very own ghost! You could experience your very own haunting every night!

Like the movies, Casper and Beetle Juice, you could invite guests to party with you and your ghost. What fun! I can already hear you shouting, "Tell me more!"

Patience, readers. I will.

Here goes: you can BUY a ghost – CHEAP – from THE WHITE HOUSE! The WHITE HOUSE is selling ghosts! Unbelievable, right?

I'm not kidding. I read about it in an ad. It's IN PRINT – The White House, of all places, is SELLING GHOSTS!

After the headline, "White House Ghosts: Cheap," what appears next is their hook to get you to buy one – "Everyone Wants to Pay a Low Price."

Well, I can't argue with that. Of course everyone wants to pay a low price. Who wants to pay too much for a ghost? The ad further states that you can get the "Best Value for White House Ghosts!"

So, how does it work? Do I get to choose which White House ghost I want? I wonder who costs more, George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Both are highly esteemed. I'll bet Millard Fillmore doesn't cost much. Most people don't even remember him when they mention dead Presidents.

John F. Kennedy might be a great ghost to have around the house. And Thomas Jefferson would certainly be interesting. I'd love to have a conversation with either one of them. But they would probably cost too much. I would want one, though. I think.

Wouldn't you?

But then you'd have to have the right equipment to communicate with them, because maybe your ESP isn't up to par.

Thousands of Birds Fall Out of the Sky – is This The End?

The sky is falling. The sky is falling. It hit me on the head.

Remember those words from the Henny Penny fable or from Chicken Little? The words may have been prophetic, because in the news this week, reporters on news stations everywhere are talking about the birds that fell out of the sky in Arkansas and Louisiana. References to Alfred Hitchcock's movie, The Birds, make people wonder about what it all means – estimates of the number of birds that fell on New Year's Eve range from 1,000 to an astounding 5,000.

The day before New Year's Eve somewhere between 80,000 to 100,000 fish washed up on the shores of the Arkansas River as well.

Since those stories ran, new information has surfaced about dead birds falling out of the sky or fish washing up on shores in Kentucky, Maryland, Sweden, Brazil, and New Zealand.

Do these occurrences indicate that the world is coming to an end? Can any other possible explanation exist? According to News@mwza.com, an ornithologist for the Livestock Poultry Commission stated that the birds showed signs of physical trauma. But from what?

The commissioner speculated that their deaths were likely due to high-altitude hail or lightening. As far as the fish dying is concerned, officials (according to the same web site) believe the fish were diseased.

Coincidence or signs of the end?

People often cite references to strange occurrences in the sky as being an indication that the world is coming to an end. Are we experiencing the beginning phases of an apocalypse?

If birds fall out of the sky by the thousands and fish wash up on shore by the thousands, should we be concerned?

The bottom line is this: If the world ends, does it mean the Earth will cease to exist or does it mean that the world as we know it will end? What if chemical and biological warfare has already begun, and the birds are our first indication that something has gone horribly wrong?

What if war destroys our electrical grid and we lose all of our electricity? We may have to return to a time when we had to rely on wood to heat our homes and feed our families. We may have to use wash tubs to clean our clothes. And we may have to use horse and carriages to get around.

Yes our world would end, but it wouldn't be over.
