Stigmata, in the religious sense, means marks appearing on the body that correspond to Crucifixion marks. Except for the movie, Stigmata (written by Tom Lazarus), which aired in 1999 and starred Patricia Arquette and Gabriel Byrne, not much has been discussed about stigmata.
But as recently as four years ago a 13-year-old girl from India spontaneously bled and often awakened with blood-soaked sheets even though her body showed no signs of cuts or scratches. Everyone was perplexed. Was she suffering from Stigmata?
